Pamper Your Senses: These DIY Bath Salts Are a Fast and Frugal Treat!
Bath salts are an excellent way to relieve muscle aches, ease joint pain, improve circulation, soothe headaches, and reduce stress. You can purchase bath salts from many retailers, but making your own lets you save money while customizing the scent. DIY bath salts also make wonderful handmade gifts for your fiends and family.
- 1 cup Epsom salt
- ¾ cups coarse sea salt or Kosher salt
- ¼ cup baking soda
- 25 drops essential oils
- 2 or 3 drops food coloring
- Empty glass jar with lid
Mix together your Epsom salt, coarse sea salt or Kosher salt, and baking soda.
Add your essential oils. You can use all one oil or a combination of essential oils, depending upon your personal preference. Try 20 drops of lavender oil and 5 drops of peppermint oil for a soothing nighttime soak. Another great relaxing blend to try is 10 drops grapefruit essential oil, 10 drops lavender essential oil, and 5 drops ylang-ylang essential oil. If you have a cold, bath salts made with 15 drops eucalyptus oil and 10 drops peppermint oil will help clear your sinuses.
Add a two or three drops of food coloring to tint your bath salts. To avoid accidentally staining surfaces in your home, you want to aim for bath salts that are a soft pastel color. Try to choose a color that ties into your fragrance choice, such as making grapefruit scented bath salts a soft pink or peppermint bath salts a pale blue.
Mix well, then pour into your container. A 16-ounce mason jar works perfectly for this recipe. If you don’t have extra mason jars handy, any glass container with a lid that seals tightly will work. This includes empty spaghetti sauce jars or empty jam and jelly containers.
If you’re giving your bath salts as a gift, add a ribbon or twine around the jar and a label describing the scent.
NOTE: You’ll want to use about ¼ cup of bath salts per bath. This means your jar should provide you with enough bath salts for eight luxurious soaks.
